Château-Landon combines striking remnants of its fortified town with a multifaceted architectural history. The Tour Saint-Thugal is part of Château-Landon’s defensive system. The Saint-André gate is a surviving remnant of a former priory. The fortified town also contains a square tower regarded as the remains of a former basilica dedicated to Saint Thugal.
The Abbey of Saint-Séverin in Château-Landon was founded in the 6th century. At the end of the 12th century, support from Philippe Auguste presumably played an important role in a comprehensive redesign of the abbey, giving it a fortress-like appearance. The abbey is not open for visits; however, visitors may enter its park.
Another striking building is the Église Notre-Dame de l'Assomption. It was listed as a historic monument in 1840, brings together four centuries of architecture and has a 57-metre-high bell tower considered unique in the French landscape.
