Culture and History
The Villa Palladienne, also known as Château de Syam, was built in 1818 by ironmaster Emmanuel Jobez. It has a square floor plan with a peristyle supported by eight columns and three circular balconies.
Nature and Landscape
The ZNIEFF “L’Ain à l’aval de Bourg-de-Sirod” also includes the municipality of Syam. The Roche du Midi in the municipalities of Syam and Bourg-de-Sirod is covered by a prefectural order protecting the biotope. The species listed as being affected at the Roche du Midi include the peregrine falcon.
The Source Intermittente appears under certain water-level conditions and has a periodicity of approximately seven minutes. Access to and crossing of the Source Intermittente can be difficult after rain.
Hiking and Cycling
The route Les Pertes de l'Ain à VTT – 62B passes through Syam and mainly follows forest tracks and meadows. As a mountain-bike route, it is an easy 18.5-kilometre circular trail.
La Roche des Sarrazins is a very easy six-kilometre circular hike. At the starting point of the route, parking is available at the Les Gyps picnic area in Syam. The route leads to the Notre-Dame-de-la-Paix chapel at the summit of Les Rochettes.
