The Sentier de la forêt du Massacre trail leads through the Hautes Combes. Earlier clearances created open areas there with a rich variety of flora. The Around Pièce d’Aval mountain bike route runs through pastures and undergrowth in the vicinity of Lajoux.

Culture and History

The Route Royale, also known as the Route du Sel, connected Saint-Claude with Geneva via Mijoux and Gex. It was built in 1742 and replaced at the beginning of the 20th century by the present-day road between Lajoux and the Col de la Faucille.

The Maison du Parc in Lajoux is the headquarters of the Parc naturel régional du Haut-Jura and offers visitors information, a shop and a permanent exhibition. The permanent exhibition “Haut-Jura, terre vivante!” presents playful, sensory and interactive installations. The Maison du Parc also includes an audio immersion experience in the Risoux Forest and a visit to a Grenier-fort, recalling the time 200 years ago as well as customs officers and smugglers.

Discovery Trail

Jur’Aventures: Trésors et racines de Lajoux is a family-friendly discovery trail with augmented reality through the village of Lajoux. The route starts at the Lajoux tourist office, is 2.5 kilometres long and takes approximately 1.5 hours.

Winter

GTJ ski stage 19 from Carrefour du Massacre to Le Manon in Lajoux is 9.2 kilometres long. Lajoux’s Nordic ski area has seven cross-country ski trails, two alpine ski slopes, seven snowshoe routes and a dog-sledding trail.

Regional Products

The Fromagerie de Lajoux processes milk from around six farms into Bleu de Gex Haut-Jura, Morbier and Raclette. It also sells cheeses made on site and regional products directly to customers.
