Nature

The large underground gallery of the Grotte de la Pontoise is 120 m long, 10 to 20 m wide and 8 to 20 m high. Its entrance is secured by a grille gate; facilities include a sturdy metal ladder, an information panel and discreet trail markers. The grotto is particularly suitable for an exploratory tour.

Inside the Grotte de la Pontoise are light clay deposits of glacial origin. Small rivulets have exposed fine layering in places. In rainy weather, the 70 m-high Pissevieille waterfall can also be seen from Villard-sur-Bienne.

The flat terraces around Villard-sur-Bienne between the Bienne gorges and the wooded slopes are characterised by open pastureland with hedges and groups of trees and shrubs.

It runs above the Bienne gorges, crosses the Joux Devant forest and follows the shore of Lac de l’Abbaye.
