Chaux-des-Crotenay: Holiday apartments and holiday homes

The Belvédère du Rachet is located on a rocky promontory above the Chaux-des-Crotenay plateau. From there, views extend over the Derrière Cornu forest, the La Baume rock, the gorges of the Saine and the Lemme, and the Nozeroy plateau; in clear weather, Mont Rivel can also be seen.

Nature and trails

The easy Parcours E circular trail starts and ends in Chaux-des-Crotenay and is 9.6 km long. It passes the Grande Cheminée, which is described as an unusual geological feature.

The Le Rachet circular trail follows a route there and back to the eponymous Belvédère du Rachet.

Parcours F follows the former tram route through a tunnel and across a viaduct above the Malvaux gorges before the route returns via the Montagne Ronde. Parcours F also follows the constructed path through the Langouette gorges.

Culture and history

The present-day Sainte-Marguerite Church was built from the last third of the 15th century onwards on the site of a castle chapel.

Sainte-Marguerite Church contains a heraldic stained-glass window with the coats of arms of the Poupet and Clermont families from the late 15th or early 16th century.

In the village of Chaux-des-Crotenay, the Espace André Berthier presents the cultural heritage and history of the Chaux-des-Crotenay area.

The Champ des Mottes Castle is situated on a rocky promontory of the Jura Mountains’ second plateau at an altitude of 808 m. Regular guided tours of the castle are organised as part of discovery days as well as the European Heritage Days and European Archaeology Days.

Geographical location

Chaux-des-Crotenay can be reached from Champagnole in the south via the N5 to Pont de la Chaux and then via the D16.
