Chevigny: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

The ruins of Chevigny Castle – with the exception of the reconstructed building – are listed as a historic monument; the châtelet is classified as a historic monument. The castle’s main construction phases date from the 15th and 16th centuries. The castle is privately owned.

Culture

The entire church of Chevigny was listed as a historic monument on 7 August 1987. The village is also home to a wayside cross dating from the 16th century and dated 1534. It is classified as a historic monument; the corresponding protection order dates from 17 August 1945. The stone wayside cross bears a depiction of Christ on its eastern side and a depiction of the Virgin and Child on its western side. It stands at the crossroads of the road from Rainans to Chevigny and the local road from Chevigny to Auxonne.

On the Place de l’Abreuvoir stands an ensemble dating from 1832, comprising a fountain, cattle trough and washhouse. The covered washhouse is connected to the fountain house (puisoir) by a long basin that served as a cattle trough. The square fountain house is made of dressed stone, has a stepped stone roof and is crowned by a cross carved from a monolithic block of stone.

Local Products

The Chevigny cooperative shop sells Comté, Morbier, Tomme, Raclette, butter, cream, raw milk and fromage blanc, as well as other local and regional products.

Nature

A hiking route is 12 km long, takes around three hours and has very little elevation gain. The trail leads along a forest track to the Chêne de la Manche, located 500 m away. This tree was designated a remarkable tree in December 2009; in 2019, it was considered to be approximately 250 years old and 38 m tall.
