Culture and history

The Église Saint-Cyr et Sainte-Julitte in Savoyeux has been protected as a historic monument since 20 April 1995; its existence has been documented since 1103.

The Savoyeux paper mill had a paper machine that carried out gelatin sizing for the first time in France. This made the paper more resistant and allowed it to contain a higher proportion of cotton rags.

The Tunnel de Savoyeux is another testament to the history of infrastructure. The tunnel is approximately 642.5 metres long and 6.55 metres wide. Its construction began in 1837 under Louis-Philippe and was completed in 1843. The Bief de Savoyeux also includes a lock gate with a bridge dating from 1843.

Nature and landscape

The section extending downstream from Ormoy to Savoyeux runs through the central Val de Saône. Areas with a favourable classification are still well represented locally, although they are more scattered.

Paths and waterways

Between Autet and Seveux, the Via Francigena follows the Saône and the canal at the Tunnel de Savoyeux. Along the south-to-north route, La Voie Bleue heads towards the Tunnel de Savoyeux.

At the port of Savoyeux, Saône Plaisance rents out licence-free houseboats. Saône Plaisance also rents bicycles on site at the port of Savoyeux.

A 9.65 km circular route takes in the Port de Savoyeux, Gallo-Roman remains, the Bois du Vernois, the Combe Roland, the Grand Bois, the Haut-Bois, Le Fauconnier and the Voie Romaine.
