In Plancher-les-Mines, the Carrière d'extraction de matière première in Marbranche is a Neolithic archaeological site. The extraction site was used to obtain black aphanite or pelite quartz, which was used to make polished stone axes; exploitation is dated to the period from 4600 to 3700 BC.
Culture and history
On 14 October 1994, the Carrière d'extraction de matière première was registered as a historic monument by decree. It is considered remarkably well preserved and one of the few European extraction sites in hilly terrain; a visible extraction face remains. The sacristy of the church in Plancher-les-Mines also houses a silver pyx of the sick and chrism from the 18th century, which was classified as a historic object on 7 April 1971.

The Circuit Le Périmètre is a 3.7-kilometre snowshoe route that begins in Plancher-les-Mines and runs through the heart of the Réserve Naturelle des Ballons Comtois nature reserve. About 700 metres from the starting point, the route includes a steep ascent.
RANDONNÉE - LA RONDE DE LA FORET DOMANIALE DE is a moderately difficult 5.0-kilometre hiking trail that begins in Plancher-les-Mines.
