Le Mont on the western side of the municipality of Fresne-Saint-Mamès consists largely of steep, scrub-covered meadows on limestone and marl limestone, known as dry grassland; there are rocky outcrops in places. At least seven orchid species have been observed on Le Mont.

Culture and History

The oldest part of the Church of Saint-Léger, the choir and transept, appears to date from the 12th and 13th centuries. The church is listed in the supplementary inventory of historic monuments. It houses the sculpture group “Vierge de Pitié”, which is dated to the 15th and 16th centuries. The lime tree in front of the church is said to date from 1340.

Through its now-vanished priory, founded in the 15th century by the lords of Grandson, Fresne-Saint-Mamès belongs to the European network of Casadean sites of La Chaise-Dieu (Casa Dei). The village’s rural history also includes the Fontaine-Lavoir-Abreuvoir de Fresne-Saint-Mamès: it was restored with the support of the Haute-Saône département as part of the restoration of the local rural heritage.

Things to Do

The Sentier botanique du Mont in Fresne-Saint-Mamès features information panels on the local flora. Along the trail, there is a hut where visitors can stop for a picnic. From the hut, there is a view of Fresne in the foreground and the Monts de Gy in the background.

Cycling loop no. 16, “Les Tilleuls”, passes through protected natural areas with remarkable trees such as plane trees, a lime tree and a cedar of Lebanon.

Leisure

The leisure complex in Fresne-Saint-Mamès includes two tennis courts, a volleyball court, a lit boules court, a mini-golf course, children’s play equipment, a skittles game, a table tennis table, a giant chessboard, a roller-skating rink and a climbing wall.
