Torpes: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Torpes lies in the Doubs Valley on the right bank of the river, on a plateau situated 20 to 40 metres above the river.

Landscape

The Château de Torpes stands on a rock approximately 20 metres high. It is privately owned and not open to the public.

Culture and History

The Château de Torpes was rebuilt in 1735 on the ruins of a medieval structure that had been destroyed by fire in 1492. The panelling in the Louis XVI-style salon and the lower room of the Château de Torpes have been listed as historic monuments since 1949.

The workers’ settlement in Torpes is also part of the local history. It consists of five buildings, each with a converted attic and gabled roofs with long roof slopes.

In 1880, land was acquired in Boussières and the neighbouring municipality of Torpes near the Doubs for the Zuber Rieder paper mill. The mill was originally intended to be built in Torpes, but was ultimately constructed in Boussières. The paper mill’s industrial system used a weir on the Doubs and a diversion canal that supplied a water building equipped with three turbines; the mill began operations in 1883.

In the hamlet of La Piroulette in Torpes stands a remarkable house that illustrates the rural architecture of the early 18th century. It preserves numerous original elements that represent the local craftsmanship and the aesthetics of the period in which it was built.

Cycling

The Circuit VTT 38 mountain biking loop is 29.7 km long; an additional 2 km is required for the outward and return journey to the loop. The route takes approximately 3 hours and is classified as difficult.

The Circuit VTT 117 mountain biking loop runs through Osselle-Routelle and Torpes.

Event

The Course de la Grapille takes place on the first Sunday in November.
