Sisco: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes
Sisco can be discovered through four different facets: sacred culture, nature, trails and coastline. Those who choose Sisco as their destination may wish to rent a holiday apartment.
Culture
The buildings of the former Sainte-Catherine Monastery were listed as historic monuments by decree of 7 March 1957; the chapel was classified on the same day. The church of the former monastery was built in the Pisan style and consecrated in 1469. After a chest filled with holy relics was deposited there in 1355, increasing numbers of pilgrims came to the former Sainte-Catherine Monastery.
The Romanesque Saint-Michel Chapel overlooks the Sisco Valley. It has a single nave, an open wooden roof structure and a semicircular, vaulted apse. According to Father Agostini, it is said to have been built in 1030.
The Church of Saint Martin – San Martinu has a three-aisled layout and a circular dome. It houses the Treasure of Sisco in three 13th-century reliquaries containing relics of various saints and martyrs. It also contains a 16th-century reliquary bust containing the skull of Saint John Chrysostom. The cultural tour of Sisco’s relics takes place in the Church of Saint Martin – San Martinu.
Nature
The Natura 2000 site “Crêtes du Cap corse, vallon de Sisco” lists Sisco as one of the municipalities included. It consists of 80 percent evergreen forest without conifers.
Trails
The “Les prés, les bois et la pierre” trail passes through fields, forests, streams and undergrowth. This circular route begins in the hamlet of Moline and leads, in particular, to the classified village of Teghje.
The “Marine de Sisco – Bocca à San Ghjuvanni” route is designated as a PR hiking trail and provides access to the valley with its 17 hamlets.
Coastline
The pebble beach of Plage de Sisco stretches for 400 metres, lies opposite the island of Elba and is suitable for swimming. A beach mat is available at Plage de Sisco for people with reduced mobility.
