San-Giovanni-Di-Moriani: Holiday Apartments and Houses

Culture

The complex consisting of the parish church of San Giovanni and the brotherhood chapel dates from the second half of the 17th century. The Chapel of San Mamilianu is a former medieval parish church building. In Casone, the Chapel of Notre-Dame des Sept Douleurs may date from the first half of the 18th century; it was restored in the last quarter of the 20th century.

The Forge di a catena, also known as Forge de Saint Blaise, dates from the end of the 16th or the beginning of the 17th century. A Neolithic station was discovered at the Castelli Vechju archaeological site in the municipality of San Ghjuvanni.

Nature

The forest between Bucatoghju and Pietrignani consists of yew trees and boxwood. Golden eagles are frequently found in this forest.

The botanical trail begins at the parish church of San Giovanni. It identifies fifty plants with names in French, Latin and Corsican, takes three hours, reaches a maximum altitude of 782 m and has an elevation gain of 317 m.

Hiking

The Ghjassu botanicu di San Ghjuvanni di Moriani passes through the typical villages of Fano and Poggio, with rural Corsican architecture, and offers the opportunity to discover birds. In the hills above the village, the Romanesque Chapel of San Mamilianu from the 10th century can be reached on foot.

Boucle 4 is a 9.5 km-long hiking route that explores San Ghjuvanni di Moriani and its numerous chapels. Near San Mamilianu, it offers views over Corsica’s east coast from the port of Taverna to the beginning of Cap Corse.

Cuisine

L’Alta Spiga makes breads, pastries and biscuits in a wood-fired oven using natural sourdough. Aghjola offers approximately 1.5-hour tours of the facility with animal feeding, as well as Spuntinu meals by reservation.
