Culture and History

Saint Cyprien is currently consecrated and used exclusively for worship; cultural events are held there only very occasionally. The Church of Saint Cyprien has a neoclassical façade. The parish church of Saint Cyprien is a Pisan building constructed from the 16th century onwards; its Baroque façade with a double colonnade on two levels is considered unique in Corsica.

In the hamlet of Muchieta, the listed Saint Cyprien complex comprises the parish church, the chapel of the Brotherhood of Penitents of the Holy Cross and the bell tower.

The Couvent de l’Annonciation is considered one of the oldest monasteries in Corsica. It was founded in the 15th century and served for several centuries as the seat of the provincial superior of the Servites in Corsica. The church of the Couvent de l’Annonciation was built in 1600 and expanded at the beginning of the 18th century. The Couvent de l’Annonciation and its church are fully protected as historic monuments.

The Château Fantauzzi was completed in 1924 and is considered the last so-called “American house” in Corsica. Its façades and roofs are partially protected as historic monuments. The square towers of Morsiglia were built between the 15th and 16th centuries as stately residences and fortified houses to protect the inhabitants from raids by the Barbary pirates.

Nature and Trails

A large part of the Monte Rossu coastline is accessible only by sea. Some of this coastline consists of ancient, reddish dunes covered by maquis growing with Phoenician juniper.

The “Tours et détours” circular trail is 1.6 kilometres long and passes through the hamlets of Pecurile, Prunu and Stanti. It offers panoramic views of the sea in the distance, the four towers of U Pecurile, the tower of Stanti and the Palazzu Ghjelfucci. The circular trail is considered easy and is marked in yellow.

Wine and Local Tradition

Clos Paoli is a small, five-hectare vineyard in the municipality of Morsiglia on the western side of Cap Corse. Clos Paoli uses the terraces paved with lauze stone for the passerillage of certain traditional sweet wines of Cap Corse, including Muscat, Rappu and Impassitu.

Clos Paoli offers agritourism excursions with an aperitif dinner in the vineyards by prior reservation. Tastings and direct sales are also available at the “petit garage”.
