Nature and Landscape
At 2,357 m, Monte Renoso is one of the five highest peaks in Corsica. I Pozzi is a distinctive Corsican natural feature, with very green meadows interspersed with water holes. The Fium'Orbo rises on the marshy plateau of I Pozzi.
The Forêt de Marmano is representative of Corsica's high-altitude forests and preserves Laricio and maritime pines, beech trees, silver firs and birches. Ghisoni is part of the Parc Naturel Régional de Corse, Corsica's regional nature park.
Routes and Discoveries
The access route for the hike to Lac de Bastani leads from Ghisoni via the D69 and then along the D169 towards the Ghisoni Capanelle ski resort; the starting point is at the upper end of the resort. The Croce à a Sarra loop is a route offering an introduction to botany.
The tenth stage of the GT20 runs from Ghisoni to Zicavu over approximately 45 km. The 3 km-long irrigation canal has supplied the local cultivated areas since the 19th century.
Culture and History
The Mine de la Finosa is a lead-silver, zinc and copper mine. The former mine can be reached after a short walk; its tunnels are closed for safety reasons, but some remains of the open-pit mine can be seen on site.
The church of the Sainte Croix brotherhood dates from the 15th century; its restored fresco is listed as a historic monument. The Church of San Francheschinu dates from the 17th century and belongs to the former Récollets monastery.
The Santa Croce Chapel houses a fresco by Ignazio Saveriu Raffali from 1752 depicting the “Lamentation of Christ”. The cast-iron statue at the Fontaine de Neptune fountain is signed by Gabriel-Vital Dubray and dates from 1856.
