Culture and History
The Église Saint-Erasme, a former cathedral, is a protected historic monument in Cervione. Until the Revolution, it was the cathedral of the Diocese of Aléria. The building has painted interior furnishings, a dome over the crossing and a detached bell tower.
The Chapelle di a Scupiccia is a pilgrimage chapel dedicated to Notre-Dame du Bon-Secours. It was built in 1649 at the request of Captain Giacomo. Its features include an elongated nave, a barrel vault and a bell tower crowned by a lantern.
The Couvent Saint François was built in the 16th century and, after later extensions, became one of Corsica’s largest monasteries. In the 18th century, it played an important role in the uprising against Genoa.
The Musée Anton Dumenicu Monti is an ethnographic museum; its collections are housed in the former seminary of the bishops of Aléria in Cervione. The museum has 14 exhibition rooms, including a reconstructed traditional Corsican kitchen and a blacksmith’s workshop. For groups of 10 or more, it offers guided tours with a minimum duration of 1 hour and 30 minutes.
Hiking and Nature
A 10.9 km challenging circular hike leads from the treasury through the lanes of Sant’Andria di u Cotone to the Plateau de la Scupiccia. A second 10.2 km circular hike starts in the village, leads over the Col de Felicio and the Scupiccia with its Madonna chapel, and returns via Cervione.
The Dunes de Prunete-Caniccia Natura 2000 site is located in the municipality of Cervione. There is a paragliding launch site near the Plateau de la Scupiccia.
Local Tradition
The Festa di a Nuciola is a hazelnut festival held every August in Cervioni.
