Culture

The former San-Agostino chapel in Chera has been protected as a historic monument since 6 February 1980. The single-nave Romanesque building has a semicircular apse at the end.

At the Usciolu Tunnel, the battle fought on 15 September 1943 is regarded as a symbol of local resistance. Every September, a memorial ceremony is held there for the resistance fighters who fell in combat.

The Bitalza sheepfolds lie on the Cagna plateau; the complex includes two chapels. At the municipal boundary with Ceccia, the Tappa archaeological site includes a circular Torre monument made of dry stone walls.

Landscape

Most of Sotta’s hamlets have old bread ovens. Like the granite buildings, they are part of the area’s historic built heritage and continue to shape its character.

Getting around

The Borivoli loop is a two-hour hike through the Porto-Vecchio plain. A trail from the hamlet of Chera leads to a geology-focused walk through vegetation growing on distinctive ground, passing granite and sedimentary rock as well as volcanic outcrops.

Sotta is connected to the A Berlina intermunicipal bus network.
