Sorbollano is a village in the mid-mountains, built on a south-facing slope. Those who choose Sorbollano as a holiday destination may wish to rent a holiday apartment.

Landscape and Townscape

An elegant white granite fountain stands in Sorbollano’s village square. Green terraces covered with vegetable gardens surround Sorbollano. A scenic hillside road overlooks the Rizzanese and Codi rivers.

Culture and History

The medieval Contra Paisolu quarter comprises the oldest houses in Sorbollano. The parish church of Sant’Andrea has a tall bell tower. The Church of Sant’Andrea replaced a smaller Romanesque predecessor, was built in the Middle Ages, and was mentioned in a visitation report from 1587.

The parish church of Saint-André has an elongated layout and a flat-ended chancel. Another historical trace is the protohistoric archaeological site of Cuciurpula, which extends across Serra-di-Scopamène and Sorbollano. Cuciurpula is considered one of the best-preserved and best-researched settlements of the Corsican Iron Age. The ruins of a village with almost 40 houses, spread over approximately 12 hectares, were excavated there.

Hiking

After a section beneath oak and chestnut trees, the Serra di Scopamena–Sorbollano–Quenza circular hiking route leads to Sorbollano and passes the church of Sorbollano. After approximately 200 metres on the departmental road, the route leaves the road and descends through an undergrowth area with holm oaks to the Codi River. The Serra di Scopamena–Sorbollano–Quenza–Serra di Scopamena circular hiking route is classified as a Sentier de Promenade et de Randonnée (PR).

The Boucle autour de Sorbollano hiking route crosses the Mare a Mare long-distance trail.

Local Character

Sorbollano was historically known for its intensive onion production.
