Pointe de Courpain is home to a 13-hectare alluvial forest at the confluence of the Loire and Loiret rivers.
Nature and Landscape
The Saint-Mesmin nature reserve stretches along the banks of Saint-Pryvé-Saint-Mesmin and protects rare or endangered species such as the European beaver, European otter, terns, the kingfisher and the osprey. It covers 263 hectares, with an additional 90-hectare protected area. Pointe de Courpain is included in this nature reserve.
The Bois de la Trésorerie features a discovery trail through an arboretum, as well as a diverse range of animal and plant life. The site has been open since 1998.
Trails and Activities
The Croix de Micy educational trail begins at the Pointe de Courpain car park, is 1.5 kilometres long and includes 14 information panels about the Loire’s animal and plant life. The Circuit pédestre du Nouveau Bourg is 3 kilometres long, takes 40 minutes and starts at Rue de la Belle Arche, where there is also a car park. The Circuit pédestre de la Confluence is 8 kilometres long, takes 2 hours and starts at Pont Saint-Nicolas, where there is also a car park.
At Lac de Bel-Air, visitors can go fishing, use a fitness trail and enjoy a walking path. The Pont de l'Europe is a sloping bowstring arch bridge built between 1998 and 2000; it carries a developed walking and cycling path. Canoeing on the Loire is offered as a visitor activity in Saint-Pryvé-Saint-Mesmin.
ESC'APE offers a live escape game in which players must escape from a room in less than an hour by finding and combining scattered clues. As its first challenge, ESC'APE also offers a task on an Aérotrain.
Culture and History
The Vieux Four, also known as the Four à briques, is an 18th-century brick kiln and was designated a historic monument in 1998. The Croix de Micy is a 10-metre-high cross built after the floods of 1856 from the last stones of the abbey. The Église de Saint-Pryvé-Saint-Mesmin was built between 1865 and 1867.
The Domaine de la Trésorerie is an 18th-century building set in a listed park. The park is suitable for walking and strolling. The Domaine de la Trésorerie hosts numerous exhibitions by national and international artists.
Le Saussay, at 41 Rue des Quatre Tourelles, is listed as a historic monument. The protected features of Le Saussay include the façades and roofs of the residential building, the courtyard wing and the barn, as well as the enclosing walls.
