Nature

Faverelles is located in the Puisaye natural region and within the ZNIEFF areas “Chênaies-charmaies du grand Martroi” and “Étangs, bocage, landes et forêts de Puisaye au sud du Loing”.

The flooded banks of the Étang des Brûleries are home to reed beds of Phragmites, small bulrush and reed beds, and willow groves. To the north of Faverelles, the state-owned Forêt domaniale de Thou is ideal for walking.

Culture

The Église Saint-Antoine-le-Grand in Faverelles has a nave rebuilt in the 14th century. Its doors and windows are in the Romanesque style, while the bell tower is designed in the Solognot style.

History

The surviving remains of the first Château du Puits include foundations, walls, and the pillars of the drawbridge. The design of the two lantern finials on the twin towers is attributed to François Le Vau. The present-day Château du Puits was completed in 1604.

The Château de la Coudre stands on the site of a fortified house built in the Middle Ages to protect against invasions from the south. At the beginning of the 13th century, the Château de la Coudre became a fortress under the influence of Guillaume de la Coudre. The Château de La Coudre was once owned by Jacques Cœur.

Faverelles developed along the fortified route of a Gallo-Roman road. Le Martroy is one of the historic sites of Faverelles.
