Pannes: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Pannes is located along the Scandibérique cycle route. At the Sainte-Catherine lock, the cycle route follows the Canal d’Orléans through the town; in Pannes, the Scandibérique forms part of EuroVelo 3, which connects Trondheim in Norway with Santiago de Compostela in Spain.

Culture

The Église Saint-Pierre-ès-Liens was founded by Ferrières Abbey in the 7th century. The nave was rebuilt after the Hundred Years’ War, up to the beginning of the 16th century, and fitted with a Flamboyant Gothic west portal.

The Maison de la Ruche et des Abeilles du Gâtinais is housed in Pannes’ former railway station and is accessible to people with reduced mobility. Its collection presents beehives and objects related to bees, honey and Gâtinais honey. The centre also explains the significance of the bee in history, traditions and beliefs. The Maison de la Ruche et des Abeilles du Gâtinais offers workshops on products from the hive.

History

Pannes’ municipal washhouse was built in 1850 and altered and extended in 1881. The archaeological site in Pannes included an enclosure wall, six wells, three lime kilns, three temples and bathing facilities. A silver eye ex-voto with a dedicatory formula was discovered in a pit in Pannes; it had been offered by the Roman citizen Prisceia Aviola.

Getting There

Pannes can be reached by car via the A77, the D 2007 and the D 2060. By train, the connection runs via Montargis railway station, followed by a TAO bus or a REMI coach to Pannes.

Market

The Marché de Pannes takes place all year round on Sunday mornings at Place Patton and in Rue Marcel Donette, and includes seven vendors.
