On the banks of the Loire stands the Château de Sully-sur-Loire, built at the end of the 14th century and listed as a medieval fortress in 1928. The Val de Loire UNESCO cultural landscape area begins at Sully-sur-Loire and extends 280 km to Chalonnes.

Anyone wishing to rent a holiday apartment in Sully-sur-Loire can choose this town as a destination when planning their trip.

Culture and History

The Église Saint-Ythier was originally located within the former outer bailey of the castle. It preserves its historic organs and furnishings dating from the 18th century. In mid-May, the Château de Sully-sur-Loire and its park provide the setting for the Heures Historiques, an event featuring historical costumes, a medieval market and numerous historical performances.

The museum offers guided and self-guided visits for groups and individual visitors. In Sully-sur-Loire’s former iconic factory, the L'Arcatène Helyett exhibition displays Helyett bicycles and motorcycles. The museum also offers bicycle rental, parking, a picnic area and on-site catering.

By appointment, L'Atelier Boutique de Valérie Rêve offers taster and introductory pottery courses. It also sells stoneware and porcelain tableware made in the vicinity of the workshop.

Nature

The Parc du Château de Sully-sur-Loire is a wooded park enclosed by walls. A footbridge over the Sange leads to ponds with numerous birds, which belong to a secondary area of the Loire Natura 2000 site. Beyond the footbridge, a 50-hectare natural area lies at Espace Georges Blareau.

Activities

Sully Canoë Kayak offers canoeing, kayaking and stand-up paddleboarding tours on the Loire, with routes of 10, 20 or 30 km. Le Château hanté de Sully-sur-Loire – Parcours à pied is a puzzle trail: visitors follow clues and access content on their smartphones at the individual stations. The trail takes approximately one hour.

Les attelages du Château offers seasonal carriage rides in July and August on weekends and public holidays, starting in the grounds of the Château de Sully. The rides follow the wooded paths through the park along the banks of the Sange to a replica of the Grotte de Lourdes and a botanical trail. Horse riding and pony rides are also offered in the park and in the town centre.

Flights by Montgolfières du Val de Sully depart near the Château de Sully-sur-Loire and offer 360-degree views over the Loire, Sologne and the Forêt d'Orléans. Cinéma SULLY has a single auditorium with 200 seats and shows a programme featuring blockbusters, films for children and young people, and arthouse films.
