Culture and History
The Saint-Aubin Tower is a protected monument with pre-Romanesque origins dating back to the 11th century. In the Vieux quartier Saint-Michel, old Sologne houses stand around the Saint-Michel Church; they showcase traditional construction using wood and wattle-and-daub, as well as wood and brick. The Saint-Michel Church stands on the site of an older building constructed in the 11th or 12th century. In its northern transept, the Chapel of the Virgin was built from the late 1660s through the 1670s and was considered the château's private chapel.
Notre-Dame des Trays is a 19th-century oratory in the forest and a picturesque, peaceful place.
The Bellefontaine Memorial honours members of the Resistance who were killed by German troops in the spring of 1944 in La Ferté-Saint-Aubin and neighbouring municipalities. An official memorial ceremony is held every June to commemorate the 1944 massacre.
