Meung-sur-Loire: Holiday apartments and houses

Culture

The Château de Meung-sur-Loire preserves two distinct appearances: that of a fortified palace and that of an elegant 18th-century residence. From the Middle Ages until the French Revolution, it was a representative residence of the bishops of Orléans.

Of the former fortifications, the Porte d’Amont is the only surviving monumental remnant. By decree of 6 October 1925, it was entered in the supplementary inventory of historic monuments.

The Collégiale Saint-Liphard is a Romanesque abbey church with a trefoil-shaped floor plan, considered unique in the region. It has been classified as a historic monument since 1840.

The Musée La Monnaye displays collections assembled by François Quatrehomme that trace the history of the local area. The museum also pays tribute to the poet Gaston Couté, a native of the town, and presents his socially engaged work.

Local life

A picturesque market takes place every Sunday on the Place du Martroi.

Getting around

The Promenade des Mauves et des moulins is an easy 10-kilometre walk lasting 2 hours and 15 minutes.

During the summer season, a guided tour followed by a demonstration by a miller was offered at the Moulin de Cropet.
