Messas: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Messas is located between Beaugency and Meung-sur-Loire in the Val de Loire. The village extends mainly along the two main roads, La Margottière and La Perrière, as it has no clearly defined town centre.

Culture

The parish church of Saint-Sébastien in Messas replaced a chapel inaugurated on 5 October 1489; Messas became an independent parish on 1 April 1524. The Church of Saint-Vincent dates from the 16th century and is dedicated to the patron saint of winegrowers.

Of the three manor houses in Messas, only the Manoir de la Perrière is open to the public. It was built in the 1850s by a regional wine merchant.

Wine

Wine is produced on a small scale in Messas; the municipality lies within the IGP area for wines from the Val de Loire. At Vinicurieux, wine tastings and workshops focusing on Loire wines are offered.

The winegrower's farm at 3 rue des Vauguignons in Messas has a chimney featuring a pruning knife and pruning shears, identifying the winegrower.

Getting Around

Messas can be reached by car via the A10 motorway and the D2152. It can also be reached via Beaugency railway station and then by a REMI coach to Messas.

Messas can be explored via its lanes and paths, where small fountains with caps can be discovered. Walks and bike rides along the banks of the Loire are among the activities available during a stay in Messas. Canoeing on the Loire is one of the activities for a weekend stay in Messas.

Festivals

The Fête de l’Océan was established in 1996 on the initiative of several members of the municipal festival committee as an annual village festival involving all of Messas's associations.
