Saint-Jean-le-Blanc is located in the heart of the Loire Valley, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The Loire borders the municipality, and the La Loire à Vélo route passes through the town. Those who choose Saint-Jean-le-Blanc as a travel destination may wish to rent a holiday apartment.
Nature
The 70-hectare Île Charlemagne leisure complex is located in the Parc de Loire, an area extending across Orléans, Saint-Jean-le-Blanc and Saint-Denis-en-Val. Water sports, running and mountain biking are possible at the leisure complex.
Roses
The Jardin de Roses du Château is laid out around an old greenhouse attached to a building. The Jardin de Roses in the grounds of the Château covers 1,100 m² and includes 400 rose bushes in 65 varieties. In 2017, the Jardin de Roses du Château was included in the Route de la Rose des Départements tourist trail.
Rose growing is also part of an older local history in Saint-Jean-le-Blanc: as early as 1910, extensive rose nurseries operated by the Grandes Roseraies du Val de Loire existed on Rue des Anguignis.
Culture and History
The Château houses art exhibitions on three levels throughout the year. The Église Saint-Jean-Baptiste is the oldest monument in the town of Saint-Jean-le-Blanc. Henri IV, King of France, laid the foundation stone of the church on 22 April 1602.
The history of Orléans is also connected with the town. On 6 May 1429, Joan of Arc launched the attack in Saint-Jean-le-Blanc before Orléans was liberated; the town was occupied by the English.
The Observatoire Astronomique de Saint-Jean-le-Blanc organises its own events: Nuit de l'Equinoxe in March, On The Moon Again in June and Nuits des Etoiles in August, as well as events relating to significant astronomical phenomena such as eclipses and transits.
Activities
On the Île Charlemagne, Léo Parc Aventure offers tree-climbing courses for children aged two and over, outdoor laser tag from the age of eight, paintball from the age of twelve and a digital Explor-Games treasure hunt during the summer season.
