Plaimpied-Givaudins: Holiday apartments and holiday homes
The Saint-Martin abbey church is the defining historical landmark of Plaimpied-Givaudins. Construction of the church and the first convent buildings began in 1077. The abbey church is considered one of the most representative Romanesque buildings in Berry and is open to the public every day throughout the year.
Culture and history
The Canal de Berry is also part of the area’s history: in Plaimpied, it was actually in operation from 1822 and open to shipping from 1835 to 1951. Another cultural trace leads to Jean Sautivet, who settled in Plaimpied in 1845 and is recorded as a player and maker of musettes, as well as a musette player.
Nature
Plaimpied-Givaudins shares the 73-hectare Lac du Val d’Auron with Bourges. Lac du Val d’Auron is a national hunting and wildlife protection area and serves as a refuge for numerous bird species. Rowing, canoeing, kayaking and sailing take place on the lake.
South of Lac d’Auron, within the territory of Plaimpied-Givaudins, lies the Bas Marais Alcalin. It is a habitat protected at European level that has become rare in France. Walking in the Bas Marais Alcalin is prohibited by a prefectural order; however, there is an observation pontoon with information panels.
Trails and activities
The “Les belles balades du Cher” circular trail in Plaimpied-Givaudins is 9 km long, takes around two hours and passes through part of the village; along the way, you can admire the abbey church.
The Véloroute du Canal de Berry in Plaimpied-Givaudins is developed for cyclists of all levels. In addition, the “Canal de Berry via Voie Verte Cœur de France à Vélo” route in Plaimpied-Givaudins is designated for cycling, hiking and mountain biking.
