Châteaumeillant: Holiday apartments and holiday homes

At the Musée Émile Chénon, interactive models, video projections and tablets convey the Gallic and Gallo-Roman history of Châteaumeillant. The museum is housed in a 15th-century hôtel particulier, whose buildings are listed as historic monuments.

Culture and history

The permanent exhibition “Vieux métiers” is located in the former Notre-Dame la Petite church, which is classified as a Monument historique. Another striking religious building is the Église Saint Genès: the Romanesque structure dates from the late 11th and early 12th centuries, has the floor plan of a Latin cross and is 52 m long. Because of its numerous carved capitals, the church was classified as a Monument historique in 1845.

Trails and festivals

The GR 654 pilgrimage trail passes through Châteaumeillant along the southern route of the Via Lemovicensis. The Fédération française de la randonnée pédestre (FFRP) marks the trail in red and white.

The Fête des Grattons takes place every year on the first Sunday in September in Châteaumeillant and lasts three days. On Sunday, it includes a traditional parade with decorated floats through the main streets of Châteaumeillant.

Wine and terroir

During the Foire aux Vins, the public can taste various wines and local terroir products over three days. The guided tour “A la découverte de Châteaumeillant” can also include a cellar visit with a tasting of AOC Châteaumeillant.

Nature

Étang Merlin forms a protected ecosystem. Around the pond, information boards provide details about interesting plants, and a hut is available for birdwatching.
