Culture and History

The parish church Église paroissiale Saint-Martin in Channay dates from the late 15th or early 16th century and has a façade dating from the first half of the 19th century. The Église paroissiale Saint-Martin in Channay contains a series of 16th-century murals. The sculptural group depicting Saint Nicholas was classified as a protected object on 8 June 1964.

The Roman road from Alise to Vertault formerly ran through Channay. A 17th-century cross stands beside a cast-iron fountain on the main road. There is also an 18th-century stone cross between the rear buttresses of the church.

A water mill on the Laignes in Channay was built in 1852 and later fitted with turbines that generated electricity until the end of the 20th century.

Channay is part of the continental ZNIEFF Type 2 natural area Cuesta châtillonnaise de Griselles à Montigny-sur-Aube. The Laignes River runs through the commune.

In the Châtillonnais, the valley areas around the Laignes, Seine and Ource rivers are concentrated; there are wet meadows bordered by hedgerows.

Around Channay are the Abbaye Notre-Dame de Molesme monastery, the historic site of Abbaye de Jully-les-Nonnains and the Église abbatiale de Molesme abbey church. Further afield in the region are Château d'Ancy-le-Franc, Mont Lassois hill and Parc de Buffon.
