Wine and Regional Produce
The Coteaux de l'Auxois winery covers 15 hectares and produces white, red and sparkling wines using the traditional method. It is located in Villaines-les-Prévôtes and Viserny. The Caveau des Coteaux de l'Auxois is open seasonally from June to September and by appointment. The vines, trained in a lyre shape, are harvested entirely by hand.
Culture and History
The Church of Saint-Hubert in Viserny has a choir with a broken barrel vault dating from the 13th century and was remodelled in the 16th and 17th centuries. The Saint-Vernier Cross is a carved 17th-century cross at a spring, decorated with grapes and vine leaves.
The 15th-century Sainte-Christine Chapel stands in the cemetery of Viserny, about one kilometre east of the village. The former cross-shaped mairie-école of Viserny also housed the communal oven. The Grange Billey in Viserny is a former tithe barn.
In Genay, at the place called La Grande Borne, stands the Menhir de Sainte-Christine, an elongated 3.27-metre-high block of pink granite that is considered a tumulus. According to one tradition, the menhir is connected with Viserny and served as a boundary marker between Jeux and Genay.
Every year, a procession climbs up to the Saint-Vernier Cross; there, the priest blesses the cross and the local people sing the song of Saint-Vernier.
