Meslan: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

The Church of Saint Melaine in Meslan has been listed as a historic monument since 15 May 1925. It was rebuilt in 1577; only the wall of the original north aisle has survived. Its floor plan is in the shape of a Latin cross, while the roof frame resembles the inverted hull of a boat. The carved beams from the 16th century depict grotesque portraits caricaturing the people of the time.

Culture and History

Bonigeard also preserves notable reminders of local history. The calvary there dates from the 16th century and has been listed as a historic monument since 1933. At the same time, it is considered one of the largest calvaries in the Morbihan département. The devotional spring at Bonigeard contains a statue of Saint Diboen, who is associated with the healing of ear ailments.

The historic buildings also include the Chapelle Sainte-Catherine in Bonigeard, a chapel dating from the 17th century. An inscription on its panelling bears the date 1698. Another chapel was built in the hamlet of Ouennec in 1641 and 1642; it was remodelled in 1754 and again in 1919.

Nature and Trails

Meslan is part of the “Rivière Elle” Natura 2000 site (FR5300006), which has been designated as a Special Area of Conservation. To the west, the Ellé forms the boundary of Meslan and separates the commune from Lanvénégen and Le Faouët.

The Ellé near Meslan is suitable for fishing and for a refreshing break on the riverbank. For various forms of cycling, the Véloroute-Voie Verte runs from Berné via Kerflémic in Meslan to Le Faouët. It serves sporting, everyday and tourism purposes. Meslan also has numerous hiking trails and mountain biking routes.
