In Lizio, historic architecture, traditional crafts, museums and paths through nature come together.

Culture

The Chapelle Sainte-Catherine and its fountain were listed as historic monuments and placed under protection by decree of 29 March 1935. For the chapel, there is a 30- to 45-minute visitor guide, “le Jeu de la Porte du Ciel”, which traces the pilgrimage route and explains the chapel’s symbols; the keys are available from the town hall or the restaurant.

In the village centre and the surrounding villages of Lizio, typical houses with elaborately decorated dormer windows, cornices, window surrounds and chimney tops have been preserved. The Circuit des croix in Lizio passes around thirty monolithic crosses that once stood at crossroads. Lizio granite established a flourishing stone-cutting trade over the centuries, reflected in architectural ornamentation.

Discoveries

The Écomusée des vieux métiers de Lizio presents more than 100,000 old objects in an exhibition area of 2,000 m² and reconstructs 60 workshops dedicated to crafts involving wood, metal, leather, stone and clothing. The Insectarium de Lizio showcases more than 60 species of arthropods in their ecosystems.

The Musée des carrières has six exhibition rooms featuring stone collections, heavy construction machinery, models and three short films. The Univers du Poète Ferrailleur comprises around 60 kinetic artworks that are set in motion by pressing buttons, using pedals and turning hand cranks.

Nature

The Vallée du Val Jouin is home to two ponds where you can go for walks, relax and fish. The Sentier botanique (No. 26) begins in Lizio and is an easy hiking trail approximately 7.5 kilometres long, taking about two hours.

Surroundings

The historic site of Château de Josselin and the castle of the same name are located near Lizio. The historic site of Menhirs Babouin et Babouine and the ancient site of Menhir de Ranion are also nearby.
