Névez combines coastline, history and traditional village architecture – from protected coastal areas to chapels and thatched-roof houses.

Coast and Nature

Raguenez is a coastal area in Névez protected by the Conservatoire du littoral, covering 1.46 hectares. The eastern part of Raguenez Beach is locally known as Tahiti and is known for its fine white sand and turquoise waters stretching to the horizon.

The private island of Raguenez can be visited at low tide, provided it is accessible and the owners permit visits. Saint-Nicolas Beach lies at the mouth of the Aven and has two water sports centres.

History and Architectural Heritage

The Chapelle Saint-Nicolas in Névez was placed under heritage protection as a historic monument by decree of 5 May 1975. The Moulin à marée du Hénan, also known as Moulin Mer, was first mentioned in 1465 and is listed as restored.

Plots nos. 114 to 122, Section C, which include the Moulin à marée du Hénan, have been listed since 23 February 1953 as part of the Sites des Rives de l’Aven.

Before the 19th century, the Chapelle Sainte-Barbe served as a parish church; since the construction of the present church building, it has only occasionally been used for services. Its main construction phase in the Le Bourg district of Névez took place in the second half of the 15th century.

The Cap-Hornier ex-voto in the Sainte-Thumette church in Névez is a scale model of a ship and was listed as a protected object on 29 January 1990.

Paths and Villages

The Port Manec’h hiking trail, circular route no. 4, is 10.3 kilometres long, takes 3 hours and 15 minutes, and starts at the Chapelle Saint-Nicolas in Port Manec’h. It follows the GR 34 coastal path along the shores of the Aven and the sea.

The Anse de Rospico hiking trail leads through old, wooded sunken lanes and the thatched-roof village of Kerascoët. Kerascoët is one of the oldest villages in the municipality of Névez; its foundation is said to date back to the 15th century.

Kercanic is a village of thatched-roof houses, probably founded in the 15th century; it is considered particularly representative of the region’s traditional residential architecture.

The Névez tourist office welcomes visitors all year round in the town centre opposite the church. The free Mein Zao car park is located behind the Névez tourist office.
