Loc-Eguiner: Holiday apartments and holiday homes

The Église Saint-Eguiner was originally built as a chapel, which was consecrated in 1577. It became a church in 1640, when Loc-Eguiner became a trève of Ploudiry; since 1 June 1927, it has been listed as a Monument historique.

Culture and history

The building has three aisles of equal size, a western bell-tower porch, two open lantern turrets and a three-sided chevet bearing the year 1631. Inside are a baptismal font and a pulpit from the 17th century, an 18th-century sacristy and two altarpieces.

The fountains also preserve distinctive details. The Fontaine Saint-Jean bears the year 1690 on its triangular gable, houses a statue of Saint John and adjoins a washhouse. The Fontaine Saint-Eguiner is the largest fountain in the village centre, houses a small statue and bears the year 1566.

At the calvary of the Église Saint-Eguiner, statues of the Virgin Mary and Saint John stand beside Christ. On the reverse is a Pietà surrounded by a holy woman and Mary Magdalene. A bas-relief beneath the Pietà depicts Saint Sebastian pierced by arrows shot by two Roman soldiers.

A Christianised stele comes from the village of Kerargan. It is 2.50 metres high, made of coarse-grained granite and was probably Christianised in the Middle Ages. In the cemetery north of the parish district of Loc-Eguiner, there is also a Christianised granite stele whose dating ranges from the Iron Age through the Middle Ages to the 20th century.

The Pardon Loc-Eguiner takes place on the first weekend of August, with a procession and a high mass on Sunday morning. In the afternoon, the municipality offers the street theatre event “Un jour à Loc!”.

Trails and landscapes

The Circuit de la vallée perdue is a trail route in Loc-Eguiner. The route is 8.3 kilometres long and rated easy; the stated starting address is 29400 Loc-Eguiner.

The Circuit de la vallée perdue follows a shady route through the landscapes in the north of the municipality. GPX and KML files are available for the hiking route, for export to a GPS device or another navigation programme.
