Kersaint-Plabennec: Holiday apartments and holiday homes

Kersaint-Plabennec combines impressive evidence of local history with a diverse natural environment and a market offering regional food products. Between chapels, calvaries, wetlands and local produce, the town reveals several distinct facets.

Culture and history

Among the notable historical monuments is the Goarem-an-Dorguenn tumulus, which was listed as protected heritage by decree of 30 June 1966. The Dirou calvary dates from 1516. The Laven calvary was built in connection with efforts to combat the plague and restored in 1903.

The Chapel of Notre-Dame de Lanvélar, dedicated to Notre-Dame de Grâces, was built in 1837. It presumably stands on the site of the old village of Kersent-Coz. In the parish church of Saint-Étienne, the form and surviving parts of its original construction indicate that it dates from the 17th century; the small porch is decorated with the twelve Apostles. A polychrome wooden statue of the Virgin and Child comes from the Chapel of Notre-Dame de Lesquelen. The Maison de Lannon is considered one of the oldest houses still inhabited in Kersaint-Plabennec.

The history of the surrounding area also includes the second line of defence of Brest Fortress. Built by the Germans in 1943 and known as the “Benoît-Riegel”, this section runs along the Aber-Benoît from departmental road No. 13 to Kersaint-Plabennec and crosses the municipalities of Plouvien and Plabennec.

Nature and trails

In the Kerivin wetland, several information panels and observation points provide information about the great diversity of plant and animal species found there, as well as the area’s role in regulating the water cycle. The Rand'Abers 3 hike in Kersaint-Plabennec includes a playground, a picnic area and a footbridge accessible to people with reduced mobility.

Local life

Every Thursday from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., Kersaint-Plabennec hosts a weekly market offering local food products. The selection includes fruit and vegetables, organic vegetables, cheese and dairy products, meat and catering products, crêpes, preserves and jams.
