Hôpital-Camfrout: Holiday apartments and holiday homes

Hôpital-Camfrout is home to the largest concentration of Kersantite quarries in the Geopark. The landscapes at the bottom of the Hôpital-Camfrout estuary are part of the recognised maritime natural heritage in the heart of the Rade de Brest.

Location

The centre of Hôpital-Camfrout is located at the end of a ria and can be reached at high tide.

Culture

The Église Notre-Dame de Bonne-Nouvelle in Hôpital-Camfrout is a 16th-century church. Its western façade features elaborate detailing with prismatic mouldings, spiral pilasters or columns, and early Renaissance elements. The bell tower and western façade were placed under protection as historic monuments by decree of 18 February 1916.

The Fontaine Notre-Dame de Bonne Nouvelle was built in 1699. It contains a statue of the Virgin and Child made of Kersanton, set in a niche topped by a scallop shell. The Croix monumentale de Traon is located in the forecourt of the Chapelle Sainte-Anne.

History

The cargo ship Notre-Dame de Rumengol was listed as a protected historic object on 28 October 1991. It is used commercially to explore the Rade de Brest.

Getting around

The coastal paths in Hôpital-Camfrout are suitable for hiking and walking. There is also a forest trail or mountain-bike route in Hôpital-Camfrout.

Events

The Fête de la Pierre takes place every year in Hôpital-Camfrout and is dedicated to Kersantite. During the Fête de la Pierre, the Association Kersanton Penn ar Bed is involved in visits to a Kersantite quarry.
