Châteaulin: Holiday apartments and holiday homes

The Nantes–Brest Canal offers opportunities for walking, cycling, horse riding, boating and water sports in Châteaulin all year round.

Canal and paths

The towpath along the Nantes–Brest Canal is flat, shady, accessible to everyone and has no difficult sections. Six locks and numerous picnic areas line the canal.

Cycling and circular routes

The very difficult mountain-bike circular route “De l’Aulne à Saint-Gildas” includes a 3.2-kilometre climb. Châteaulin also hosts the international cycling race “Boucles de l’Aulne” every year, which takes place on the town’s roads.

Culture and history

The Church of Notre-Dame can be visited free of charge or as part of a guided tour in July and August. The Festival des églises et chapelles takes place in June and includes four concerts in four religious buildings. On Thursday mornings in July and August, the “Jeudis de l’orgue” concert series takes place in the Church of Saint-Idunet.

The Saint-Compars de Lospars Chapel dates from the 16th century and was largely rebuilt in 1884. The choir of the Notre-Dame de Kerluan Chapel was rebuilt in 1723. The chapel has a Latin-cross floor plan and an octagonal sacristy on the south side. The calvary of the Kerluan Chapel dates from 1639 and was created by Roland Doré.

Town and market

The Châteaulin Viaduct is now a single-lane road bridge and offers an unobstructed view of the town and the canalised Aulne. The Châteaulin market takes place all year round on Thursdays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Quai Cosmao.
