Dirinon: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes
Dirinon combines sacred architecture, Breton traditions and a varied landscape. Church and museum culture, traces of the Iron Age, nature and TER connections give the town a diverse character.
Culture
The Church of Sainte-Nonne has an irregularly laid-out nave, a broad transept and a three-sided choir; the building dates from the 16th, 17th and 18th centuries. The south porch dates from 1618 and contains stone statues of the twelve apostles. The bell tower is a Léonard-type bell tower with two belfry levels and two galleries; it bears the dates 1588 and 1593.
The traditional Pardon of Saint Divy includes the blessing of the water followed by a service in the Saint Divy Chapel. The procession features the presentation of the cross, the banners, Saint Divy and Sainte Nonne, as well as traditional costumes.
Nature
The area around Dirinon is characterised by the Élorn River, the Rade de Brest, the Étang du Roual and numerous forests, meadows and valleys, creating a varied landscape suitable for nature walks.
History
The Musée Ti Gwechall is dedicated to the costumes and traditions of the municipality of Dirinon. Visitors can see a reconstructed Breton interior with a box bed, a dresser and historic furniture. A temporary exhibition is held every year in the adjacent barn. The Musée Ti Gwechall is open only in summer; visits outside the season are possible by prior reservation.
The park of Créac’h ar Roual contains rectangular fortified structures known as “camp romain”. Two Iron Age stelae behind Dirinon Town Hall and in Kervern Mindu provide evidence of burial customs from the Iron Age, dating to around 700 BC.
Activities
The Fun Park Accrobranche de Dirinon, located in the Coat-Mez forest, offers 15 courses spread across five hectares among oaks, maritime pines and beech trees, as well as 50 zip lines, the longest of which is 150 metres long.
Connections
The Dirinon railway stop opened in 1867 and is served by TER trains connecting Quimper with Landerneau and Brest.
