Meslin: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Meslin is home to the megalithic site of Lande du Gras: one part is classified as a historic monument, while another is listed as a historic monument. The covered alley was classified in 1962, and the larger complex was listed in 1996. The site also includes a significant outcrop of gleaming sandstone, one of the few outcrops in Brittany that still displays this surface formation in its original form. Lande du Gras is also associated with the history of the Chouannerie, as Hoche’s army established a camp there.

Culture and History

In the centre of Meslin, the parish church of Église Saint-Pierre-et-Saint-Paul stands within an enclosed area where part of the former cemetery has been preserved. The building dates from several construction periods: the nave dates from the 14th to the 15th century, the eastern chapel was rebuilt in 1746, and the sacristy dates from 1755.

The Château de Cargouët, a 17th-century privately owned château, is located in the hamlet of Cargouët in Meslin.

In the wider region around Meslin, the Artothèque de Saint-Brieuc is a closed museum. The Abbaye de Saint-Aubin-des-Bois is a historic site there, the Chapelle Saint-Gilles is a ruin, and the Hôtel de Rohan is also a historic site.

Landscape

The wider region around Meslin features a variety of landscapes: Bel Air is a mountain, Plage des Rosaires is a beach, Cap d'Erquy is a headland, and Îlot Saint-Michel is a small island.

Historical Traces

Other notable features include the Chaise à Margot, a 2.30-metre-high Neolithic menhir whose shape may resemble an armchair. Moulin Hervé is a very old mill that has now been converted into a residential building; the axis of the former mill-wheel rotation, which has since disappeared, is still visible.

The circular trail “Sur les traces de Margot” has its stated starting point at 2 Rue de la Chaise à Margot in Lamballe-Armor. It passes through Meslin and presents periods from prehistory to the Breton Chouannerie.
