Nature

The Chastreix-Sancy Nature Reserve is freely accessible to anyone who complies with its regulations. It can be reached via the GR30, the GR4 and seven PR hiking trails. Hiking, horse riding on designated trails, alpine skiing and Nordic skiing are permitted in the nature reserve; mountain biking is prohibited there.

The Maison de la Réserve Naturelle de Chastreix-Sancy is an educational exhibition area about the nature reserve and the Regional Natural Park of the Volcanoes of Auvergne. The Maison de la Réserve is also a meeting place for events and the starting point for numerous walks.

Culture

The Église Saint-Bonnet is a rectangular church dating from the early 14th century, with a four-bay nave and a southern portal from the 15th century. It was classified as a historical monument in 1907 and is open free of charge every day throughout the year.

The path to the summit of Roc de Courlande is accompanied by three statues of the Virgin Mary, which are connected with the area's long-standing pilgrimage tradition. The Sentier d’interprétation de Chastreix leads to a Gallic bridge, a shepherd's hut and the legend of Pas du diable; visitors can also discover a waterfall and historic livestock watering troughs there. The Les hauts de Chastreix route features a bread oven and a wayside cross in the hamlet of La Vessaire.

Winter

The Chastreix-Sancy ski area is located on the western slope of the Sancy at an altitude of 1,400 metres and offers 18 downhill runs. The Chastreix-Sancy cross-country skiing area includes four trails and two connecting routes, totalling 15.6 kilometres. The Chastreix-Sancy snowshoeing area includes a circular route and two connecting routes through the forest and the high-altitude area.

In Chastreix-Sancy, ski touring is possible in the Plaines brûlées and the Fontaine Salée glacial valley, either alone or with a qualified guide. Dog-sled rides in Chastreix-Sancy pass through the area's extensive landscapes and most beautiful forests. Snowkiting is possible in Chastreix-Sancy.
