Egliseneuve-D'entraigues: Holiday apartments and houses

The GR® 4 begins in Égliseneuve-d'Entraigues in the Puy-de-Dôme département. The Le Tour des Vaches Rouges circular hiking trail also starts in the village and crosses a plateau more than 1,000 metres high, featuring pastures, lakes, peat bogs and Salers cattle.

Nature

Lac d’Entraigues covers around 8,000 square metres and has a partly marshy shore lined with beech and birch trees. Numerous picnic tables and a car park are available there for walkers. The Cascade du Bois de Chaux consists of several cascades over ancient basalt lava in a valley lined with beech trees. From the lake, it can be reached via a signposted path in 20 minutes there and back and is accessible with a pushchair.

Lac de Chambedaze is a peat lake whose water surface has been reduced to around 5 to 6 hectares by almost 5,000 years of peat formation. A 600-metre footpath leads from the hamlet to a viewpoint overlooking Lac de la Landie. The Cascade d’Entraigues is an 18-metre-high waterfall in a narrow valley surrounded by lush fern and beech vegetation.

Culture

The Church of Saint-Austremoine in Égliseneuve-d'Entraigues is a 12th-century Romanesque church in the Auvergne style, with polychrome decoration and carved capitals. Three objects in this church are protected as historic monuments: an 18th-century altarpiece, a 15th-century wooden statue depicting the first bishop of the Arverni, and a 16th-century stone Pietà. The church is open daily from 9:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. all year round.

Sancy Tour no. 18, “De vachàs, de mounde, de fromajou”, is a discovery trail through Égliseneuve-d'Entraigues. It presents the village as the birthplace of Saint-Nectaire cheese and covers waterfalls, the church, historic remains and interesting facts about the cheese.

Local area

The Marché d’Égliseneuve-d’Entraigues offers regional products, handicrafts, clothing, souvenirs and fresh produce. There is also a flower market in spring.

Cycling

The Égliseneuve-d'Entraigues sector of Espace Sancy VTT-FFC offers mountain-bike routes focused on nature and scenery, as well as more challenging trails on the northern edge of the Cézallier Plateau.
