Parentignat: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

The Château de Parentignat offers a 45-minute tour of a series of furnished rooms containing a private collection of paintings. The château’s Louis XV chamber displays furniture made by 18th-century cabinetmaker Nicolas Heurtaut.

Culture and History

The suspension bridge Pont suspendu de Parentignat over the Allier is part of the history of the village. It crossed the river between the left bank at Issoire and the right bank at Parentignat. In 1831, the bridge made it possible to cross the Allier instead of using the ferries at Parentignat, Orbeil and Les Pradeaux. The Pont suspendu sur l’Allier has been listed as a historic monument by decree of 29 October 1975.

Park and Activities

The park of the Château de Parentignat is laid out in the English style dating from the late 18th century. After the French Revolution, a pond with an island was created there.

The grounds of the Château de Parentignat offer a GPS-assisted treasure hunt (geocaching). At the end of the geocaching activity, participants answer a quiz about the history of the château and the region. An orienteering course leads from the courtyard of honour of the Château de Parentignat through the estate’s 15-hectare meadow to its 3-hectare English-style park.

Cycling

The cycling loop “Circuit du Val d’Allier – Châteaux et villages au pays de la reine Margot” leads to Parentignat and its château. In addition, the Via Allier follows the marked “accès V70 sud” connection from Issoire towards Varennes-sur-Usson via Parentignat.
