Culture and history
The Church of Saint-André is freely accessible every day. It contains 14th-century wall paintings, including the famous depiction of the Mort Noire. The Haute-Loire Museum of Art and Folk Traditions is located in a former baker’s house in Lavaudieu. A 15th-century bridge over the Senouire is the Vieux Pont.
The Association Vallis Dei organises concerts and exhibitions in Lavaudieu. From June to September, musicians, singers and visual artists contribute to the cultural life of the village. Visits to the Logis de l’Abbesse are organised by telephone appointment for groups of no more than five people. During visits, the western part of the cloister of the Logis de l’Abbesse is open to the public.
Nature
The Sentier des Vignes is 2 km long, takes around 40 minutes and includes 75 metres of elevation gain on gentle inclines. The route reaches an esplanade with remarkable views over the village of Lavaudieu. An inventory of diurnal butterflies and botanical information sheets are available for the Sentier des Vignes.
The landscaped banks of the Senouire are part of an environment in Lavaudieu that is suitable for family walks. Part of the Senouire valley surrounding Lavaudieu is designated in Haute-Loire as a protected site and protected landscape. The Abbess’s Gardens at the Logis de l’Abbesse are located above the Senouire.
Cuisine and events
The treasure hunt “Sur les pas de Saint-André” leads through the streets of Lavaudieu and combines challenges and riddles with the history of the village.
The private culinary tour “Visite privée gourmande” in Lavaudieu includes a visit to the village, the church with its frescoes, the Romanesque cloister and the gardens. It ends with an Auvergne aperitif and selected regional products.
In the area of the Communauté de communes Brioude Sud Auvergne, summer markets take place on Wednesdays from 5 to 9 p.m. in July and August.
