Alleyras is located in the Gorges du Haut-Allier, on the border with Lozère and Ardèche. Near Alleyras, the Allier is lined with pebble and sandy beaches. The natural beaches along the Allier in Alleyras offer cliff jumping, rides through the rapids and natural slides.

The “Chemin du bois” trail leads to a waterfall around 15 metres high. The “Tourettes” viewpoint at the edge of the village has an orientation board.

The PR244 Le circuit d’Arsac route offers views of the Allier gorges, particularly of the Poutès dam, on the descent towards Alleyras.

Culture and History

Along the “fabluleux” trail, puppets tell fables by La Fontaine, fairy tales by Perrault and Grimm, and stories about traditional crafts. In Pont d’Alleyras, the “terre et sentiers” centre focuses on Vabres pottery.

Several hamlets in the municipality of Alleyras still have traditional bread ovens, including Alleyras, Anglard, Le Moulard, Le Pont d’Alleyras and Aussac.

The Château de la Beaume was rebuilt in the 17th and 18th centuries in a rustic medieval style. It features interiors from the 17th, 18th and 19th centuries that are characteristic of the noble residences of Velay, including rendered surfaces, wood panelling and painted ceilings.

Hiking

The PR245 Le Moulard hiking route starts in Pont d’Alleyras and climbs to viewpoints overlooking the Allier gorges. PR245 Le Moulard is a difficult hiking route covering 12.1 kilometres and taking four hours.

The GR470 stage from Pont d’Alleyras to Chapeauroux is a difficult hiking route covering 21.8 kilometres.
