Chanteuges: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes
Chanteuges is located where history and river landscape come together directly: the Benedictine abbey stands on a basalt spur at an altitude of 540 metres. Below it lie the village and its cobbled streets.
When planning your own stay, the desire to rent a holiday apartment in Chanteuges may also play a role.
Culture
The Church of Saint-Marcellin, dedicated to Saint Marcellin, dates back to the 12th century. In the Romanesque church, the permanent exhibition “Paroles de pierres” displays the sculptures of the capitals, including vegetal, figurative and historiated motifs.
Nature
Chanteuges is home to the Conservatoire national du saumon sauvage, Europe’s largest salmonid hatchery for reintroduction. The facility contributes to the conservation of salmon in the Loire-Allier basin and supplies young fish in Europe for reintroduction or for rearing in fish farms.
La Gravière is a small ZNIEFF and encompasses a floodplain terrace of the Allier. The publicly accessible area offers a fitness trail, ponds popular with anglers, beaches on the Allier and a walking path.
Trails and Events
The La Gravière nature campsite is located on the GR 470 Sources et Gorges de l’Allier and on the GR long-distance hiking trail Robe de Bure et Cottes de Mailles. PR223 La source de Pourcheresse is an easy 3.6-kilometre circular hike starting from Chanteuges.
The Fête de la pêche, held annually at the beginning of June, takes place at La Gravière in Chanteuges. The annual Foire de Mai in Chanteuges combines plant stalls with food as well as artistic and craft products.
