The PR639 Le sentier de Bonas is a 5.17 km hiking trail in Araules with a stated duration of 1 hour and 30 minutes. The interpretation trail from Bonas introduces visitors to the geology, history, flora and fauna of the volcanic terrain at the Pic du Lizieux. The PR513 Entre Lizieux et Meygal also leads from Araules to Recharinges through a forest and offers views of the Sucs mountain range.
Culture and History
The Mémorial de Chièze is located at 205 Route des Résistants in the Montbuzat district of Araules and is freely accessible without interruption. It commemorates the events of 22 April 1944 and honours civilians, members of the Resistance and unnamed victims.
Today's Église Notre-Dame d'Araules is a Neo-Romanesque church. It was built between 1870 and 1873 on the site of a Romanesque church dating from the 12th century. Inside is the painting “Notre Dame d'Araules”, which was classified as a historic monument in 2014.
The Église de Recharinges was created from an abandoned barn. A bell tower was added around 1873; the interior is characterised by a clear, modern design.
Construction work on the Temple de Montbuzat began in 1818 and was completed in 1886.
