Culture
The Église Saint-Georges was built in the 12th century. In the 20th century, its Romanesque nave was extended to the west by a transept and a Neo-Romanesque chancel area.
Chassenard is also connected with older history: in antiquity, two important Roman roads met near the village, one running along the left bank of the Loire and the major Roman road from Autun to Bourges. A 17th-century historical plan of the former Templar commandery of Beugnet in the municipality of Chassenard shows the living quarters of the warrior monks and a courtyard used to manage their landholdings.
The Château de la Croix was originally a bourgeois residence built by the Gay family in the 17th century. In the 1890s, it was extended with two side wings and an external stair tower. The former grand salon is now the wedding hall; its wood panelling has been preserved.
