Isserpent: Holiday apartments and holiday homes

Isserpent is located in the countryside at the foot of the Montagne Bourbonnaise. Several hikes are organised here every year. Anyone planning a stay in Isserpent can rent a holiday apartment for this purpose.

Nature

A spring in Isserpent has been flowing continuously since 1980 and feeds the Mourgon. The Boucle de Mont Aigu runs along the foothills of the Montagne bourbonnaise and is mostly shaded. Along this route, wooded and open sections alternate.

Hiking

The Boucle de Mont Aigu is a 2-hour-and-45-minute hiking trail starting at the Croix Chandian in Isserpent; it is intended for year-round use. The Balade de Châteauroux is a 3-hour hiking trail starting in Isserpent and is also intended for year-round use.

The Balade de Châteauroux passes through varied large forests with different tree species, by a pond, along waterways and past châteaux. Herds of Salers and Charolais cattle can also be seen there.

Culture and history

In the Village Gadet district stands the “Pierre qui danse”, an unworked granite block or megalith that rises approximately 3 metres above the ground and weighs around 17 tonnes. It is regarded as geological evidence associated with a local legend about a meeting place of the fairies, the “Fades”.

In the centre of Isserpent lies the medieval castle mound site, where the lords of Isserpent had their castle. The village is also home to the “Goutte du soleil” washhouse and the Château de Chateauroux.

The Château des “Serpens” was set on fire and completely destroyed by Protestants under the command of the Baron des Adrets towards the end of the 16th century.

Geographical location

Isserpent is easily accessible by road: the A719 motorway is 24 km away, and National Road 7 is 10 km away. Vichy railway station is 17 km from Isserpent.
