Osse-en-Aspe is the starting point for Route N°34 Tour de Bugala, an easy, 6.3 km circular hike lasting 2 hours and 30 minutes. When staying in Osse-en-Aspe, you may wish to rent a holiday apartment.
Culture
The parish church of Saint-Etienne in Osse-en-Aspe is a Romanesque church; it was founded at the turn of the 12th and 13th centuries. Protohistoric stone circles are located on Mount Layens. A polished white fibrolite axe with a rounded cutting edge was found on the Ipère plateau.
Hiking
The Balcon du Casteith is a circular route through the village of Osse. It follows the Rue du Temple and the Rue du Casteth to a balcony-like viewpoint overlooking houses and gardens, then returns via the Rue du Haut. The Ombrèr-Cometas route runs through the Ombrèr forest and across the fern-covered slopes of Pirait before descending via the cooler Chemin des Cometas.
The Arreugle-Massey route follows an old transhumance path and leads to a picturesque hamlet with barns. The Panoramique Osse-Athas route connects the restored mills of Osse, a section of path along the Gave and a mountain panorama at the foot of the Rocher des Chèvres. The Tour des Serres is considered a very comprehensive, sporty route around the summer pastures of Layens.
Nature
The Tour de Bugala reaches a viewpoint over the valley through beech forest and boxwood vegetation; visitors can watch vultures there.
The Aire de pique-nique le Saillet offers a picnic area on the banks of the Gave d'Aspe with fishing opportunities, shade, barbecue facilities and wooden tables. Above the village lies the Aire Naturelle de Camping d'Osse en Aspe, close to hiking trails and the Gave d'Aspe, with pitches for motorhomes and caravans.
