Oloron-Sainte-Marie: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Culture and History

In the old town of Oloron, the Maison du Patrimoine is housed in a characterful 17th-century building. The museum covers archaeological, historical and ethnographic subjects.

The Tour de Grède is a listed building in Oloron-Sainte-Marie; it was classified as a Monument historique by decree dated 7 December 1943.

The fairs of Oloron, held in May and September, date back to the Charter of Pau of 11 December 1398. The development of the fairs and the cattle transactions that arose from them led the Ministry of Agriculture to rank them among the most prestigious fairs in the département.

Basque berets and Basque linen continue to be produced in Oloron-Sainte-Marie.

The Villa Bedat is located on the site of the former Bedat sandal factory at the confluence of the Gaves d’Aspe and d’Ossau. With interactive stations, it presents local landscapes, waterways, materials and contemporary art through experiences involving smell, hearing and touch. A tour with information panels and reading tables also presents Oloron’s ancient history.

Landscape and Trails

At the entrance to the town lies Parc Pommé, created in the 19th century. It covers more than 3.5 hectares and is home to around fifty tree and plant species, which can be seen throughout the year.

Oloron has a Tèrra-Aventura treasure hunt that follows in the footsteps of Saint Grat and focuses thematically on the routes to Santiago de Compostela.

VAE Route No. 22 leads from the area around the Bidos stele to Oloron-Sainte-Marie. It runs along the right bank, orographically speaking, of the Gave d’Aspe and returns to Oloron via the Route des Crêtes.

Oloron-Sainte-Marie railway station is served by TER trains operated by the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region between Pau and Oloron-Sainte-Marie, as well as by TER-Aquitaine buses between Canfranc and Oloron.
