Paths and Landscapes

The Boucle du chemin Paillassa is an easy, 6.6 km circular trail starting from Gelos. It runs along woodland paths and minor elevated roads, offering open views of the surrounding hillsides and the Pyrenees; it takes approximately 2 hours and 30 minutes. The route passes near the Château de Tout-y-Croît; the private estate has preserved its agricultural use.

The voie verte from Gelos to Mazères-Lezons passes by the Pradeau, crosses a footbridge offering views of the Château de Pau, runs alongside the Haras, and continues through the Saligue to the weir.

Culture and History

The Haras national in Gelos is housed in a château built in 1784; Napoleon's stay there in 1808 led to the decision to relocate the Haras there. The Haras national is fully protected as a historic monument, including the built and undeveloped areas, the surrounding walls, and the gates, under a protection order dated August 4, 2011.

The Haras national de Pau-Gelos is currently closed to the public.
